FIFA 09 : Details

The myth that EA makes the bimbo football game and Konami makes the cultured one is probably dead by now, but just in case, I have sent it to McDonald's at 2am to spill Joey Barton's pint. FIFA has long since put its dark, deformed days of knee-length grass and knee-deep gameplay behind it, and with this 2009th instalment it delivers solid, realistic football along with its trademark compellingly polished presentation. And careful, because it probably is trademarked.

What's more, it's got more good ideas than FIFA's dad, Sepp Blatter, has had in his entire career. There's Adidas Live Season, which allows you to download form updates for your favourite league, and benefit from them in exhibition, ranked online matches and Interactive Leagues. Interactive Leagues were a good idea from last year, you may remember; you pick your favourite team, and then play against people who represent your next real-life opponent. Worldwide results in these fixtures determine worldwide positions on the Interactive League table. (The game will also support the FIFA Interactive World Cup.)

FIFA 09 also allows you to define tactical presets, and then map these plans to a d-pad menu, so if you go behind late in the game, you could push your full-backs forward and press for an equaliser at the touch of a button, or if you're 2-0 up you could load the midfield. There are slider bars for all sorts of variables, and toggles for things like playing the offside trap. As ever, whether your team can do all the things you ask of them is down to their individual stats, and you still have the option to pick and tweak standard formations, set up man marking and kick takers, and drop Dirk Kuyt even though you love him, in the standard way.

All of this comes in handy when you're playing with friends, and there's a new mode for that too. Lounge mode invites you to set up a league with up to 19 friends and then use "cheap shots" to give yourself pre-game advantages, like extra goals and reduced opposition performance stats. Or you can play them online in the 10-versus-10 games that rely on the "Be a Pro" mechanic introduced in FIFA 08, where you control one player for the whole match. Pre-release we couldn't get enough people together for this, but we wouldn't recommend anybody trying it out without practicing offline first.

Good thing, then, that there's a companion single-player mode, Be a Pro: Seasons, where you get four campaigns to try and rise through the reserves and first team to become captain of your country, as the game puts ticks and crosses against your name for moving into the right positions, completing passes and tackles, scoring goals and contributing to positive results. Online FIFA 09 Clubs allows you to set up a clan, effectively, and then compete for selection in Be a Pro online games. Whether online or off, you can use a typically robust character creation suite to define your player; from the name on his shirt to the sweatbands on his wrists. Well, that's just his torso, thinking about it, but you can also do how he looks, and whether he's got a stupid headband and poncy boots.

Manager Mode, EA's attempt to compete with Konami's revered Master League, also returns in tweaked but not expanded form, even though it's not mentioned on the box or in the manual. It puts up another stern test, allowing you to play around with a transfer budget, field weakened teams in the cup and get turfed out by your board if you don't win enough games, which you control in standard fashion. Konami purists may feel it's a bit light next to their obsession, but it's buckets more shiny water in a vast, vast well here, which also includes licensed leagues from across the world (Premier League, Championship, League 1 and 2 and FA Cup from England), albeit with randomised fixture lists.

If this were old-days FIFA, we'd now moan that it's all very well having more options than Starbucks, but it all looks a bit indulgent when your football moves around on a secret network of arching conveyors and the score's 16-7. Not any more, of course, and FIFA 09 rams the point home with the emphasis on physical midfield battles and possession football, where teams hold their shape and press, and jostle with great effect, and it's up to you to exploit them by dragging defenders out of position, switching the play and paying attention to personnel. Slide tackles haven't much place here, and sprinting is best saved for decisive openings, or you'll run out and continually lose the ball as it moves a fraction out of control with every step. Meanwhile, pressing with two players at once - the default tactic for impatient defenders - does more harm than good, particularly as the refs are officious to say the least.

Along with the tactical presets on the d-pad (or analogue stick, if you switch them around), you also have a broader range of skill moves, accessed by holding a shoulder button and wiggling the right stick in prescribed patterns. The right stick also handles your first touch when receiving the ball, and elsewhere in the increasingly complex control system are various holding moves, jockeying options, fakes, dummies and shot or pass modifiers. As ever though, a player with a good eye for space and movement can get by with just a few buttons and no in-depth knowledge of the fancy bits, even if it never hurts to bone up.

FIFA 09 may want a certain type of passing football to succeed, then, but it's also built on a bedrock of good ball physics and realistic player behaviour, and it's not quite as mean around the box as PES used to be, so while the goals are hard to come by, they can be spectacular. Volleyed and driven shots are particularly fearsome, and while 25-yard potshots won't work as often as placement and good build-up, you rarely feel like the ball is caught under your feet when you should be in prime position to really murder it home. The only slight disappointment is how little joy we had from corners and wing play. Cutting inside to pass it to the striker was always a better ploy, as the physical presence of centre-halfs and the goalkeeper turfed us out of the box on most of the occasions the ball arrived in the air. Particularly strong aerial attackers, like People's Hero Peter Crouch, are exceptions, but it's odd to see the likes of Torres coming up so short.

Otherwise, there are only niggles. There's one irritatingly persistent bug that spins your player round when he's running onto a loose ball, which looks odd and often costs you possession, and there are other times when your team-mates apparently lose all sense of time and place, as well as the traditional football game grumbles of the player-select button selecting a player you didn't want, passes going to the player next to the one you meant, and button presses getting buffered for the next player on the ball, who passes it harmlessly into touch when you wanted him to run with it.

On the whole though, the depth of choice on and off the pitch makes up for these things. FIFA 09 feels like a proper football game. It used to pretend to be football, dressed up in face masks and gluey boots, but these days football is exactly what it's computing. And the face masks are prettier too. Likenesses do vary in quality (Crouch looks like a tanned smurf, for one), but the animation is phenomenal, and there's so much subtle variation in the visual language EA's defined that we could swear they've even replicated stuff like Kuyt's shambling gait. But then perhaps we're just imagining it, or expecting it, because the game's otherwise very convincing. It feels like football, it rewards football, and it punishes football, for football reasons. It may not always be your brand of football, and you can ask for more, but only by degrees. The myth is dead. "Let's FIFA".

Step To Updating PES 2009: V1.30

Following this being updated, you will need to go into the system settings menu and click Download, to which is will say a new download is available. This will then update the transfers for the January window and add new youngsters to pretty much every squad. Following the download, you must overwrite your edit data file and then save the new one. Nothing needs to be deleted. Finally, turn off the game and restart. When doing so, you will be prompted on the main screen to once again overwrite saved data. Click yes once more. Now, you should have all the latest transfers done, players added, but kit and logo data still remaining in tact. This worked for me, and also kept my editing team, Wolves in the game. I edited over TEAM A.

Certain players have noticeable stat increases, especially if you play the game with a certain team alot. For me, Gabby’s pace has greatly increased as a Villa forward. I am sure you guys will all notice little stat changes for your players and teams. The option file SHOULD NOT overwrite any kit data or saved leagues/cups, although PESGaming.com takes no responsibilty for any loss of saved data at all.

Finally, by the looks of things, there are no new graphical or gaming features included in the update, meaning no new boots or no trophy support (PS3). Hope that helps a few people!

PES 2009 Xbox Guide : New Modes and Gameplay Additions Unveiled

Konami unveils new modes and gameplay additions as PES 2009 strives to band together PES players in the quest for football perfection
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has revealed further details of the many gameplay additions in its forthcoming PES 2009 title, and has explained its unique ‘PES Unites’ slogan that has been designed to band together fans of the beautiful game via its new game modes.
Due for release on PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360, PlayStation®2, PC-DVD, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) and mobile phones in Autumn 2008 (followed by a Wii version in spring 2009), PES 2009 has been reworked from the ground up. New player models, AI elements and physics routines all combine to create the most advanced and realistic football game ever, but at the heart of PES 2009 are two new modes designed to make players rethink the way they approach the game.
‘PES Unites’ is the key phrase Konami is using to sum up the ethos of the new game. PES 2009 also improves on its many existing game modes and adds a number of new ways to play the game. Central to this is the new ‘Become a Legend’ solo mode, which casts the user as a midfielder or striker within a match. Using a default vertical camera view, the player starts as a rookie pro at the start of their career, and charts the many highs and lows of becoming a professional player. An extension of the popular ‘Fix’ mode, the ‘Become a Legend’ mode sees the player operate in their favoured attacking position, and work as part of the overall team as opposed to controlling every member as in a normal game.
If successful, the player must first cement their place in the starting line-up with strong performances, before catching the eye of bigger clubs and earning a move to top flight teams. Of course, results are everything in modern day football, and players must force their way into contention or face lengthy stints as a substitute or eventually be forced to take a step down to a smaller club if performances are not good enough. The ‘Become a Legend’ mode has already proved a massive hit in Japanese versions of PES since 2007, and is certain to enjoy similar status across Europe.
PES 2009 also boasts an online variant of the ‘Become a Legend’ mode, entitled simply ‘Legends.’ Players can use their saved player in online matches with like-minded friends, and can show their skills on the larger online stage.
The PES series has always been famed for its deep yet accessible control system, but the new game is aiming even higher. PES 2009 offers an unprecedented level of control, redefining the intricacies of first touch, close control and ball distribution, while also enhancing its shooting and AI mechanisms to create an all-round footballing experience. Konami’s Tokyo-based Pro Evolution Soccer Production Team has introduced new control systems wherein the player can now perform tricks and feints without the use of special moves, but within the context of the player’s run and via rapid turns and movements of the Dpad or analogue stick.
Likewise, the way the player guides the ball has been changed. The PES series has always treated the ball as a separate entity, but new calculations related to the air resistance and friction of the ground make passing and movement in PES 2009 a great deal more realistic. Different weather conditions will now have a more pronounced effect on the weight and movement of passes, with players having to compensate for more heavy conditions in poor weather.
Producer Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka and his team have also worked to extend the remit of their Teamvision AI routines, with on-screen team mates adapting their tactics according to current situations, and moving into space to assist the player in attacking and defensive situations. Teamvision also recognizes strategies that work for or against it, and will accumulate the data for use in Master League and League mode.
“It is an honour to know that our game is enjoyed by so many people from different backgrounds,” said Takatsuka of the new additions. “From top professional players, to football enthusiasts and kids who just want a kickabout in the streets, its appeal is widening all the time. The new Become a Legend and Legends Modes are designed to convey the pressure and pace a real pro experiences, with players working as part of a strong side and working to prove their merit as a player. I feel great and motivated when people enjoy our games, and feel the new modes will open up new ways to enjoy PES.”
The ever-present Master League has also been reworked, with negotiations now a lot simpler and conducted on a two-tier club and personal basis, while loyalty now plays a part with disaffected players’ moods having an adverse affect on their performances.
Adding an all-new layer of gloss to PES 2009’s much-enhanced realism, the game has also undergone a radical aesthetic upgrade. Stadiums now have more realistic environment and atmospheric elements, while the PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox 360 versions will also showcase LED hoardings. Likewise, the way distance is shown has been changed, with the use of contrast adding a depth field to the action, while there is also a new vertical camera angle that automatically switches to a closer proximity during key one-on-one situations.
Every player in the game has also been totally redefined, with all new face and body detail, with further facial animations and kit detailing adding to the realism. The game’s Edit mode has also been boosted with the ability to create bespoke matches via the importing of faces, kits, and even sound files for specific music and crowd chants for any team. A new Pixel Paint system has also been integrated, allowing players to create their own club crests and badges to add to their home-grown kits.
“We have pulled out all the stops to make PES 2009 a landmark in footballing games,” commented Jon Murphy, PES Project Leader for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “From the most basic controls, through to the wide-ranging additions to game modes such as ‘Become a Legend’, all-new visuals, sound, and the Edit mode, Seabass and his team have strived to cram as much as they can into the new game. And with more online announcements to follow, there is every reason to believe that PES 2009 is the football game everyone has been waiting for.” PES 2009 will be released for PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360, PC-DVD, PlayStation 2, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) and mobile phones in Autumn, followed by a Wii version in spring 2009.

PES 2009 : Transfer update

Konami plans to offer a free team-sheet update for Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 at the end of February.

This tracks all the shuffling of the January transfer window. So Arshavin will now be at Arsenal, Tottenham will have most of their old players back, Emile Heskey will lumber around for Villa and Liverpool will carry on being unconvincing. It's quite fun when Tom's not here.

The update also tweaks thousands of player statistics to represent their performance over the first half of the season. Apparently there will be around 200 extra players added, too.

In hindsight, we'd go one further. The myth that EA makes the bimbo football game and Konami makes the cultured one is - to return to the note upon which we began our FIFA 09 review - thoroughly dead. But that doesn't necessarily mean the same is now true in reverse. FIFA 09 may be excellent, and the last few Pro Evolutions have gone backwards, but what of PES 2009?

At its heart, we suspect, lie many of the same lines of code that drove the success of the series on PS2 for so many seasons, because the fundamentals are unchanged: player movement is on eight directions (with in-betweens during sprints), passing is zippy, and ball movement is physically convincing, if a little heavy. The graphics reinforce the impression that PES is reliant on existing content and assets, too, because despite the usual claim that it's "undergone a stunning graphical update", movement animations are wooden and repetitive, and the players look more like they've undergone a stunning facial beating under a railway bridge.

FIFA, by inevitable comparison, is so smoothly plastered with graphical Polyfilla that almost every angle of ball receipt, every tweak of the analogue stick, is covered by an appropriate animation, which frees the players and football to move organically in ways that PES wouldn't countenance. It's not quite that perfect, but the fact is we used to talk about the difference between PES' loose ball and FIFA's gluey boots, and these days it's the difference between PES' grids of movement and FIFA's cloud of possibilities. No wonder Peter Moore's crowing about the review scores.

But while the visual comparison between PES and FIFA is now rather harsh on EA's Japanese adversary, Konami's re-minted PES Production Team in Tokyo is a bit like the James Bond film crews - their grandfathers worked on this stuff, doncha know, and they know a bit about it. So it shouldn't be a surprise to discover that while PES 2009 lacks FIFA 09's fluency - graphically and mechanically - and the EA game's authoritative command of licences, it still plays much better than last year's effort thanks to a few nips and tucks, and gives PES fans who can't break away from its hard-coded diagonals and toxic waste likenesses their best return for a few years.

PES moves at a fair old trot, and while the attacking principles are the same as they are in FIFA - pass the ball, retain possession, go backwards when you can't go forward, drag players out of position to make space, be ruthless when you do - wing play is more effective, with a high frequency of goals from diving or jumping headers, and the trick moves that used to be on the right analogue stick have now migrated to the d-pad or left stick (whichever you use for movement), so they're easy to incorporate into your approach play, rather than an afterthought. Nippy strikers and wingers have less trouble holding onto the ball under duress, too, reaching the byline fairly often in spite of typically adhesive pursuing defenders.

This is because, absent the need to counterbalance FIFA's omnidirectional player brains, PES doesn't have to be so rugged and physical. Defensive pressing is more about pushing wingers inside or driving your opponents down blind alleys. Aggressive pressing with two players - similarly suicidal in both games, since it leaves tons of space for AI or a wily human opponent to exploit - results in a fair few niggly trips, but there's less bullying. If you want the ball, you're going to have to chase it and earn it, which in turn encourages patience in attack. Once you have it, as with FIFA, the basic vocabulary of controls and a sensible approach will bring you results, but there's a huge range of subtleties to master, whether it's different types of pass, cross and shot, flair techniques, off the ball instructions, when it's best to make substitutions, and so on.

So then, for all the superficialities that divide PES and FIFA, there's quite a lot that unites them. But superficialities can be a bitch. PES has the UEFA Champions League licence, and Manchester United and Liverpool licences (it's Liverpool FC's official game, for goodness sake), along with previous agreements involving Spanish and Italian sides, among others; but most of the other Premier League clubs still have silly names, some of the national teams are totally fictional, and there are lots of noticeably incomplete transfers, with Berbatov yet to arrive at Old Trafford and Shevchenko still running around Stamford Bridge. Although he's not, of course, as the game only models 19 stadiums. Elsewhere the commentary's dreadful, and the crowd chants lack the overlapping you hear on TV or the growl of being among them, and are sickeningly rhythmic and artificial instead.

PES's answer to FIFA's Be a Pro mode (and its online counterpart) is weaker, too. You define a custom character, starting out as a reserve at 17, and then play one role in the team - either midfield or striker - earning experience points in practice matches and trying to break into the first team. But it lacks FIFA's coaxing feedback - the greens and reds acknowledging good movement and involvement during the game - and in a mode where the significance of good movement is amplified so considerably, the fact FIFA kicks the PES movement code so hard around the park that you could stitch lines on it, throw on laminate and sell it at JD Sports, is rather damaging. That said, there's a bit of value to be had from it if you ever overcome that hurdle, and the four-player online variant may lack FIFA's 10v10, but it's still a good number. (We'll be comparing PES' and FIFA's single-footballer modes in more depth soon.)

Inevitably, PES also suffers from the same football-isms we brought up with FIFA, namely passes going to a player other than the one intended, the game selecting the wrong player in a moment of crisis, and a bit of residual input skewering the odd attack. But it also suffers the odd PES-ism, like players confused what to do with a loose ball when in close proximity, throw-ins, corners, free-kicks and ball distribution from that keeper that all rob the game of pace, and being unable to tell at a glance which slide tackles are fair and why. You often suspect the game computes the outcome fairly, but the paucity of animations and grid-like movement means you can't tell at a glance, and it's frustrating.

PES still has the Master League though, providing many seasons of well-designed progression, and the Champions League is a boon, even with its overblown presentation coupled to misnamed teams and, hilariously, Sony PlayStation ad hoardings all over the 360 version (probably down to the terms of any UEFA licence, but we like to think it's the new spirit of friendship). There's also a full Edit mode for people who want to tweak their line-ups.

Even so the result, overall, is a game that by any objective measure now languishes in second place behind EA's spirited new-look FIFA. And yet it's only with a heavy heart that we mark it down a point lower, because we still love PES for its personality. The new generation of FIFA games are so new that we're still exploring their limits, but we already understand all that about PES, and when something out of the ordinary occurs, like a shot-cum-cross from halfway up the touchline creeping in at the far post, it's like hidden treasure. When you realise the ref isn't calling play back for astonishingly vicious tackles that occur after the ball has gone, preferring to let attacks develop, it's hilarious.

Should you stick with Konami, then, PES 2009 will grow on you, and you may forget you ever thought about switching teams in the first place. But personality isn't always enough, and the fact is that PES can only draw alongside FIFA in the areas where the Konami game's strong, falls short in others, and never could hope to compete on the glossier, contracts and lipstick side of sports game production that EA's ruled for years. Not quite a reversal, but PES needs to be a very different game when it hits 2010 if it wants to overhaul the Canadian upstart.

Pro Evolution Soccer 6 - The Official Guide by Piggyback

When you think of computer game guides the most common assumption would be towards the RPG genre such as Final Fantasy and other popular franchises. When you think of other genres such as sports game, guides aren’t that well known of as who would want to admit to perfecting a move with the aid of a guide… and when presented with a Pro Evolution Soccer 6 guide I was quite sceptical at first, as what could a book teach me about a game I claim to be a veteran at?

Now the first section in the guide is entitled “How to play” which like its name suggests is a basic break down of the game mode and options. Most of the info here is nice and easy to digest and is targeted mainly towards the new user of PES rather than the die hard followers.

The next chapter is a rather meaty section entitled Coaching Manual. In here it goes through the basics to the more advance areas of PES from defence to shooting with a varying degree of intensity. What first impressed me about this area of the guide is the way the information is presented to you. Each tip has a plethora if information at it disposal, starting with the button commands to perform the task. This is shown for the PS2, Xbox 360 and for the PC. After this it lists the difficulty and the effectiveness in a typical out of five rating system. Now we are shown the main ingredient of the tip which is broken into three main areas:
Overview – This gives the reasoning behind the tip/tactic
Execution Tips – Gives hints towards to successfully accomplishing the tip/tactic
General Advice – This basically gives you more information in using the tip/tactic.

The three main areas Overview, Execution tips and General advice all combine to give a strong amount of guiding and information. It’s always good to learn how to do tactic/move but actually learning the reasoning and the benefits are often much more useful. The final section is related player abilities, which gives often useful input to what factors the user must take into account when considering the tip/tactic in question.

One of the most impressive factors of this section is that each tip comes with a reference in the form of a Letter-Number combination which all refer towards a section on the DVD that accompanies the guide. The ages old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” is proved beyond a shadow of a doubt here, as it easy to read and think about a tip/tactic, but actually seeing it in action is often priceless. Thankfully the DVD part of the guide seems to deliver messages that would be otherwise more difficult to explain. Each tip/tactic on the DVD is shown with the aid of a controller diagram so you can see what buttons are pressed and when. Also you are often shown the same tip/tactic from multiple angles, which really allow you to digest the information. The only draw back with the DVD is that I found it sometimes overwhelming, trying to watch the video clip and at the same time watching the commands being input. After you get used to way it’s presented you find yourself learning. Also included in this section are the ‘hidden’ moves that aren’t listed in the manual, some of which are there to perfect the repertoire of the more advanced players, such as the hidden cross.

The next main section is tactics and strategies which offers information in relation to formations and team/player instruction. The information here is presented well and gives detailed reasoning and pointers to help you out. Whilst most seasoned PES players will know tactics are only as good as the player using them, the guide respects this and doesn’t tell you what formation you *must* play. Instead it offers information on each area giving strengths and weaknesses. This I found quite useful as normally when playing PES I gloss over this type of stuff and normally just change formation. I found myself learning here and I will definitely try and use some of the information provided here to my advantage.

The section following on to this is dedicated to everybody’s favourite game mode Master League. It starts off by giving you the basics behind the game mode, by explaining what each of the options mean. Most of the information here again is aimed at new PES players as the working of Master League are fairly well known by frequent PES players. An interesting section is the “Talent Guide” which details the must have players in the game. A large amount of information is provided here, such as peak age, special abilities, initial wage…. Etc. Most other guide like this would have simply listed names in a long list, but the way this guide sets out the info it makes it very easy to pick out who to buy and when.

The penultimate section is a massive two page spread on a selection of the main club/national teams featured in the game. This details all the players and their skills as well as special abilities. Also shown are the strengths and weakness of the team, which is also divided into max/minimising risks as well as tips for opponents. The information provided here is more of a reference than a guide, but that said it does allow you to plan for playing against teams.

The final section is entitled extras and that details the other miscellaneous information such as PES Shop and Xbox 360 Achievements.

Like I said before at first I was sceptical when told about a PES “guide” but I’ll be honest and say that it has taught me a few things I had previously overlooked. For hardcore PES players I don’t think they will get the usage out of this as much as new PES player but it’s definitely worth the read. It obvious plenty of time and effort has been invested in producing this guide (the DVD is testament to that). For players wanting that extra knowledge I would quite happily point them towards this guide.

Review of Pro Evolution Soccer (PlayStation 2)

The graphics for the game are outstanding except for the crowd, which are incredibly flat. All you see are the same blurred faces repeated over and over again and they are holding huge flags, which take up quite a bit of the stand. The build up to kick off looks good as the teams come out of the tunnel with the referee and linesmen in front of them. Their names then go on your side of the pitch to show where they are playing.

Generally the in-game graphics are quite sharp and on some of the pitches there are bald patches in the center circle and goalmouth area where the keeper has been diving around. There is an overall improvement over last ISS game, although the players don’t look as realistic as they do in FIFA.

The gameplay is also first-class; it moves very well, but the only problem is that when running a player down the wing with a team mate running alongside, you can’t stop moving in order to play a through ball for them because they suddenly stop with you. Controls handle nicely too, especially with the power bar for the shoot and long pass button. There are also various skills and techniques you can find out about in the manual.

It is worth mentioning that the sound effects are again the worst part of the game. The commentary is appalling and has no co-ordination with the flow of play what so ever.

The new ‘Master League’ is a real improvement and there are now 2 divisions (play up to 32 seasons), with the added strategy of having to budget for the players wages at the end of each season.

OUR PLEDGE: We promise that we have fully played 'Pro Evolution Soccer' before writing this review. The scores given above are our honest opinion and were not influenced in any way by the manufacturer or distributor of the game.

Pro Evolution Soccer Dribbling Tip Cheat
This Is A Dribbling Tip, I'm Not Sure How Obvious It Is, But When Mastered Can Be A Life Saver. Basically, Get The Ball To Someone With Half A Brain Cell Who Can Control The Ball Well. Then Proceed To Take On All On Comers, Just Run Naturally (no R1,r2,l2) When A Player Comes To Make A Challenge, Try To Get As Square On As Possible, Then As They're About To Stick Thier Foot In, Just Tap L2 And Move Diagonally Past Them. Simple, But Effective. Yesterday I Went Past Three Defenders With Suker (croatia) On Extreme Level (and Scored), It'll Even Work With Castello!

Pro Evolution Soccer EASY FREE-KICKS Cheat Codes
This Game Is Great Because Evrytime You Play Its Diferant, And Theres No Surefire Way To Score But Heres A Little Tip, When Takin A Free Kick Never Chip It, And Only Shoot If Theres A Good 25yrds From Goal And The Keepers Outta Position, Remember If You Do Shoot Hold Up To Keep It Under The Roof, However If Theres Is No Clear Shooting Oportunity Simply Pass To The Closest Man ( Press X ) And Turn Away From The Closest Defender, And Fire A Shot In, It Takes Some Practice And Guts But It Works And Ive Scored Great Volleys, Diving Headers When (if) The Ball Has Been Rebounded, This Isnt The Greatest Tip Ever, But It Makes The Notoriously Difficult Free-kick That Little Bit Easier

Pro Evolution Soccer GOOD PLAYERS TO BUY FOR MASTER LEAGUE Cheats
Let Me Start With Saying That The Formation That Works Best For Me Is 3-5-2 , With The Midfield In A Diamond Shape . This Formation Is The Best For Wing Play , Which Is Why I Allways Buy S.carr (ireland Squad ) At 24pts ,or If You Can Hold Out R.carlos (brazil,r.madrid Squad) 32pts , Play These Two Players On The Wing As They Both Have Good Speed , Excellent Passing And Agreat Shot.

Pro Evolution Soccer GREAT PLAYERS CHEAP Cheat Code
Not A Cheat, But A Slight Design Flaw. When You First Select A Team For The Master League Season, As Soon As You Can Buy Players, Look For The Players Who Would Normally Have Played For That Team In Their Respective National Teams (of Course, If The Players Aren't In The National Squad This Won't Work, But Then, You Only Want The Best!). These Players Will Usually Be Listed As Free Players. I Have Tried This With Liverpool (europort) And Found The Likes Of Michael Owen, Emile Heskey And Steven Gerrard All Available On A Free Transfer!

Pro Evolution Soccer Shoot From Outside The Box Cheat
Want To Shoot From Outside The Box With A High Success Rate?? Here's How...give The Ball To Someone Naturally Good At Shooting From Outside The Box, I Find Rui Costa Is Freakishly Good At This, Then Proceed To Just Outside The Top Of The Box, Turn And Run (without R1,r2,l2)parallel To The Top Line. You Should Have Attracted The Attention Of One Or Two Defenders, Big Deal, Just Double Back (may Help To Have B.f Star) Enough Times To Loose Them And Bring The Ball On The Shooting Foot, Then Simply Have A Crack! Just Over Half Way On The Power Should Be Plenty. Hope This Helps, It's Got Me Out Of A Few Tight Ends!

Pro Evolution Soccer TAKING FREE KICKS FROM 23 YDS OR LESS Cheat Codes
It Is Much Easier To Curl The Ball Into The Net Than Drive It When Taking A Close Range Free Kick. To Do This You Have To Press And Hold The Down Button While Pressing Square To Shoot. As Soon As As You Let Go Of Square, Immediately Press And Hold Left Or Right Depending On Which Way You Want To Curl The Ball. Use A Right Footed Player When Taking Free Kicks Positioned On The Left Hand Side, And Use A Left Footed Player To Take Them From The Right Hand Side.

Pro Evolution Soccer UNLOCK NEW FREELANCE PLAYERS TO BUY IN MASTER LEAGUE MODE. Cheats
Using The Umbro Challenge Mode In Training Simply Get "fantastic" Ratings (1200 Points Or More). This Is Easy On Free Kick And Long Pass But Not On The Others. Otherwise Complete Master League By Winning Division 1 To Unlock More.

Tip: Boban Is A Great Defensive Half And There's Other Legends Like Gheorge Hagi, Laudrup, Puskas, George Best Etc Etc. They Can All Be Located In The "free" Section.

Playstation 2 Game Cheats for Pro Evolution Soccer

Pro Evolution Soccer EASY MASTER LEAGUE Cheats
Not That Easy As You Still Have To Win But Give This A Shot. Create Players For Much Needed Positions I,e Striker, Create The Player As Good As You Want And They Will Not Cost What They Should, I Created A Full Team, All Players Cost 42 Points And The Keeper Was Better Than The Best, Midfielders Better Than Zidane, Beckham Etc Put Together And The Lone Striker Was Faster Than Owen More Skillfull Than Ronaldo And Scored More Goals Than The Premiership And Serie A Put Together. I Know They Still Cost Alot But Compare Them To Say M.owen, And Youll See What I Mean.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 coming this fall to the PC

While EA Sports has decided to take a pass for the most part on the PC platform for its 2009 line-up of games, Konami has come to the PC sports fan's rescue (if you are a soccer fan that is) with the announcement this week of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. The game will indeed be coming to the PC and a number of other game platforms later this fall.

According to a press release from the company, the cover box will have Argentinean forward Lionel Messi as the game's official face. The new installment has supposedly undergone a graphical revamp for the 2009 version along with a number of other additions and improvements including a new Legend mode where a player can control a virtual soccer team member throughout a career.

The Official PES2009 Achievement Guide

First Glory - 10
Awarded for your first win.

Win with any team in any mode. Done.

Winning Streak - 25
Awarded for winning 10 consecutive matches.

Can be done easily in your first season in ML. Just make sure you don't lose. You can save your game after every win just to ensure that you have a 'safety net'.

Come From Behind - 10
A title awarded when you come from behind and win.

Purposely concede or score an own goal, and then spend the rest of the game trying to score, making sure you win before the match is over.

Last-Minute Win - 10
A title awarded when you score the winning goal in extra time.

Play any game in any mode and make sure you and your opponent are equal during the last few minutes. Once the clock reaches 90:00, go up the other end and try to score. If you do score, the achievement will unlock after the match is over.

World Tour - 15
Awarded for playing at all the stadiums.

Play a match in all 19 stadiums. Winning and scoring does not matter. This can be done on any game mode/difficulty.

Gentleman - 20
Awarded by giving away less fouls.

For this to unlock, you have to have an average of 1 foul per match in the last 10 games. Just don't think about scoring as even if you lose the game, as long as you don't foul them, the achievement will unlock. Quite a boring one but easy nonetheless.

Possession Play - 15
Awarded by increasing ball possession.

You have to have an average of 60% over a 10 game period. Throughout all 10 games, just keep the ball for the majority of the game. You do not need to worry about winning the game - Just keep the ball.

Hat-trick Hero - 15
Awarded by scoring many hat-tricks.

You need to score 5 hat tricks. Start up a 20 minute game and play on Beginner. Play with Barcelona and make sure 5 of your attacking players score. If you are doing this achievement in one game, it has to be 5 different players.

Ace Striker - 15
Awarded by scoring many goals.

You have to score 2+ goals for the last 5 games. Just play with a decent team and remember, it's all about goals.

FK Specialist - 15
Awarded by scoring many free-kicks.

You could cheat but I will advise not to as this is a rewarding achievement to unlock. Play with a team that has a good FK taker and make sure your shot goes strait in. It is not allowed to touch the GK. I would suggest using AC Milan for Andrea Pirlo.

Long Ranger - 15
Awarded when you score from 35m or more.

Go to Edit mode and pick 'Team A'. Go onto Formation Settings and bring their GK up for corners. Then play a match on Beginner against them and give them a corner strait after your kick off. Head it away and get your CF to run towards the half way line. You then need to hold down (B) and cross it full power and it should bounce in the goal.

Goal Getter - 15
Awarded for scoring 100 goals.

Just keep playing the game. You can check on your progress by going on your 'Track Record' which you can find in 'Gallery'

100 Matches - 15
Awarded for playing 100 matches.

Same as above. You just need to play the game a lot. It will come in no time at all.

100 wins - 25
Awarded for winning 100 matches.

The same again. Persistence is the key. It'll come the more you play the game.

100 Clean Sheets - 25
Awarded when you keep 100 clean sheets.

Similar to the one above but is a tad trickier. It'll take longer but just make sure that you don't concede in the majority of your games and then it will unlock sooner than you think.

English League - 15
Awarded for beating all the English League teams.

Go into League mode and start an 'English League' with Cup games enabled. You should spend the first half of your season winning EVERY game. Then go to Exibition mode and beat the team you played the league with. You don't have to but then just finish playing the season and win both the league and cup so you can win the Ultimate Player achievement.

Ligue 1 - 15
Awarded for beating all Ligue 1 teams. Then go to Exibition mode and beat the team you played the league with.

Same as above but you should do it in 'Ligue 1'. Again you should enable cup games so you unlock the Ultimate Player achievement.

Italian League - 15
Awarded for beating all Italian League teams.

Start a 'Serie A' season and make sure you beat ALL teams in that league. Then go to Exibition mode and beat the team you played the league with.

Start a 'Spanish League' season and make sure you beat ALL teams in that league. Then go to Exibition mode and beat the team you played the league with.

National Teams - 15
Awarded for beating all the National Teams

A very time consuming achievement. Play EVERY team in Exibition mode as Brazil and once you have beaten all the teams, you should then play a match against Brazil and then beat them. After that, it will unlock.

In your 2nd year in ML, make sure you win the league. Once you progress to the next season, it will unlock.

Conquered Europe - 20
A title awarded when you win the Master League European Championship.

If you are quick, you can win this in your 3rd season. Just make sure you finish you qualify in your 2nd season. Get to the final and make sure you win. It'll unlock after you play the match.

Perfect Season - 50
Awarded after the best "Master League" season.

A really annoying achievement. You need to win EVERY game in EVERY competition. You need to be in D1 too so you can win all 3 competitions.

Pro Debut - 10
A title awarded when you make your Become a Legend pro debut.

Go into Become A Legend mode, make a player and then play a match. It will unlock when you return to the main menu after you first match.

Super Sub - 10

You need to come on as a substitute when your team is losing. You then need to score goals to win your team the match. EG. Come on at 0 - 1 and make it 2 - 1.

International Debut - 10
A title awarded when you make your International Debut in Become a Legend.

Keep playing and after about 7 matches, you'll be selected for an International match. Play that match to unlock the achievement.

Internation Cup Debut - 15
A title awarded when you play in the Become A Legend Internation Cup.

You'll play this after you have been selected for your chosen country. Play the match to unlock.

International Cup MVP - 15
Awarded by playing well in Become A Legend's International Cup.

Just score lots of goals and make a lot of assists in the Internation Cup. The better you play, the more chance that it will unlock.

100 goals (Become a Legend) - 15
A title awarded when you score 100 goals in Become A Legend Mode.

Play a lot of BaL. Making scoring your top objective.

200 goals (Become a Legend) - 20
A title awarded when you score 200 goals in Become A Legend Mode.

Same as above. Just score lots of goals every game and after about a season of consecutive scoring, it will come.

Wanderer - 10
Awarded by playing for many teams in Become a Legend.

You need to play 10 clubs in 4 different countries. You can skip matches and then move to another club during the Negotiations period. Repeat until the achievement unlocks.

International Titles - 20
Awarded by playing well for your National Team in Become A Legend.

You need to win all available International titles. You can check your progress by looking at your 'Track Record' by going into your 'Gallery'.

Club Titles - 20
Awarded by playing well for your club in Become a Legend.

You need to win all available Club titles. You can check your progress by looking at your 'Track Record' by going into your 'Gallery'.

All Titles - 50
Awarded for acquiring all titles in Become a Legend.

You can check on your title status by going to Player Info/Settings > Title Display Room. This achievement will take a long time and a lot of gametime is needed. Just keep playing Become A Legend and make sure you win everything each season to fasten the process up.

Winning Streak (Network) - 20
Awarded when you have 5 successive Ranked wins in the Network.

You should do this legit. You should pick a decent team such as Barcelona, Man United or Inter Milan. You should then use the best players on your side. Messi, Adriano and Ronaldo are such examples. We do not suggest 'boosting' here.

High Win Ratio (Network) - 30
Awarded by increasing your Network win ratio.

Similar to the above acheievement. Just pick a good team and use their best players. The key to getting this one is consistency. You need to win 15 out of 20 online games to unlock it.

Hat-Trick (Network) - 15
Awarded when you score a hat-trick in a Network Ranked Match.

I found this pretty easy as I did it in my first 5 minute game. I picked Barcelona and just used Messi and his pace to my advantage. I would suggest playing a 10 minute game though as you'll have more time to score those 3 goals.

Legend's Debut - 10
A title awarded when a player created in Become a Legend plays in a Legend match.

Very easy to unlock. Just play a Legends match online. After you have finished the game, the achievement will unlock.

Best Combination - 10
Awarded when Legends Combination reaches 3000.

You'll need four people in the match to unlock this one. Just make sure every memeber of your team is involved in the build up and just make that last member scores the goal.

Combination Goal - 20
A title awarded when you score a goal involving 4 users in Legends.

You should play on Beginner and have 4 people in the room. Just make sure everyone touches the ball and like the above achievement, make sure the last user finishes the shot.

Total Combination - 25
Awarded when Legends Total Combination reaches 30000 points.

Harder than it seems. Just make sure you have four people in the match room and play on Beginner. Play a 10 minute match and just win by about 7 - 0 and you should get it. It will unlock after the match is finished.

Legends Master - 50
A title awarded when you play with 100 users in Legends.

Quite a time consuming one. Just keep playing with four people in the match room. Winning and scores does not matter, just keep playing those Legends matches with different people.

UEFA Champions League Debut - 10
A title awarded when you play in the Champions League for the first time.

Play in League Mode and enter one of five European leagues (English, French, Italian, Dutch or Spanish) and finish in a CL qualifying spot. I would suggest doing the English league as you can finish in either one of the top four positions. The achievement will unlock after you have started the 2nd season

Through The Group League - 15
A title awarded when you advance through the group league in UEFA Champions League.

Just complete the Group Stage in UEFA Champions League Mode and make sure you finish at least second in your respective group.

European Champions - 50
A title awarded when you win the Champions League.

It's not that hard to win the CL so you should do this legit. Play with any team you may wish to play with and just get to the final and win that game. It will unlock after you have returned to your pre-match lobby.

Ultimate Player - 100
The most prestigious PES 2009 title.

The hardest PES achievement EVER. Win all leagues and cups. This includes titles in Master League section.
